Head High Wines announces North Shore big wave surfer Andy St. Onge as brand ambassador
(February 8, 2016; Sonoma, CA)—Head High Wines partners Bill Price and Sam Spencer announced today that North Shore-based big wave surfer Andy St. Onge has joined the Head High family as a brand ambassador. Launched in 2015, Head High derives its name from the surfing term which refers to waves that perfectly match the height of the rider. Price and Spencer’s shared enthusiasm for surfing and the outdoors provides an important blueprint when producing wines that, above all else, provoke unexpected exploration. Partnerships with like-minded organizations such as California-based non-profit Sustainable Surf, allow Head High to participate in the preservation of the beaches and oceans which they hold so dear. In addition to creating brand awareness within the surfing and outdoor adventure community, St. Onge will contribute original content in the form of blog posts, newsletters and social media.
“I’ve known Andy since our high school days and our mutual passion for surfing, music, adventure and wine has only grown stronger with time,” says Sam Spencer. “We are honored to have him as a Head High ambassador and we believe that this partnership will further illustrate our dedication to preserving the ocean and our close ties to the surfing community.”
Andy St. Onge is a New England native turned Kama’aina waterman, who has lived along Oahu’s North Shore since 1988 when he left his hometown of Dedham, Massachusetts to attend Hawaii Loa College. St. Onge has a Master’s Degree and PhD in the philosophy of education from the University of Hawaii. He currently teaches earth science at the high school level and philosophy at the university level. His biggest inspirations stem from a profound love of nature, adventure, good company, art and fine wine. When St. Onge isn’t in the classroom, he can be found on the open water—the place he has considered a second home since the age of 13 when his dad gave him his first surfboard.
“Head High is a way of life,” says Andy St. Onge. “It represents an ethos and set of values that are about having fun, living healthy and making the most of life. Head High is larger than wine, it’s the experience and the adventure of it all and I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible team.”
Head High produces Pinot Noir ($35) from the Sonoma Coast, a Red Blend ($30) from the North Coast, and Rosé ($24) from the Sonoma Coast. For every two bottles of Head High sold, $1 is donated to non-profits, including Sustainable Surf, and the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation.
