Inman Family Wines introduces “Whole Buncha Love”; estate-grown whole-cluster Pinot Noir
Inman Family Wines, a small family-owned winery in the Russian River Valley, today introduced “Whole Buncha Love,” a Pinot Noir made from carbonically fermented whole-cluster grapes.
Adorned with a retro label reminiscent of San Francisco’s 1960s psychedelic age, “Whole Buncha Love” is a tribute to Winemaker and GM Kathleen Inman’s passion for whole-cluster winemaking. “Whole Buncha Love” is the most natural wine I’ve ever made,” says Kathleen Inman. “We threw four tons of whole bunches of Pinot Noir grapes into a tank, and allowed the native yeasts to start fermenting. I love the results so much that I now plan to grow the label.”
The 2013 “Whole Buncha Love” is comprised of six barrels of Pinot Noir, grown at Inman Family Wines’ 10.45-acre Olivet Grange Estate Vineyard (OGV) in the Russian River Valley. The distinct carbonic maceration winemaking practices follow similar traditions to the Cru Beaujolais wines, in which the uncrushed grapes begin fermenting from within. For added complexity and structure, “Whole Buncha Love” undergoes aging in neutral French oak, resulting in a blend of savory and fruity flavors.
Kathleen Inman first began fermenting whole-cluster Pinot Noir grapes with her 2009 OGV Pinot Noir. The site performed so well that during the next vintage, she increased the whole-cluster portion from 20% to 50%. “Whole Buncha Love” is Inman’s first wine made entirely from whole clusters, and also her first foray into carbonic maceration. “Whole Buncha Love” is immediately available for purchase for $45 through Inman Family Wines’ tasting room and website: www.inmanfamilywines.com.
