Sequoia Grove’s Dean Busquaert awarded The Robert Mondavi Excellence Award from CANVAS

(April 22, 2016; Napa Valley, Calif.)—Sequoia Grove Winery is pleased to announce that Dean Busquaert, senior wine educator, was awarded The Robert Mondavi Excellence Award by the Concierge Alliance of Napa Valley and Sonoma (CANVAS). The Robert Mondavi Excellence Award is the top honor at the annual CANVAS Gala and Awards Ceremony which recognizes the hospitality industry professionals who have taken the extra step to ensure that visitors to northern California wine country enjoy positive and memorable experiences. Dean was awarded a trip for two to Nashville, including airfare, car rental and hotel. The awards ceremony took place on March 29.

Last year, Sequoia Grove tasting room manager Matthew McMann won the CANVAS Excellence Award for Outstanding Hospitality Service in Napa. “With more than 800 wineries between Napa and Sonoma, it’s quite an honor to have back-to-back wins from the CANVAS awards. We pride ourselves in offering great customer service, including Dean’s wonderful program, A Taste for Cabernet. Our success is tied to our unpretentious and welcoming service-based approach,” says Steven Bowden, vice president of consumer sales & marketing.

Sequoia Grove’s tasting room is located at 8338 St. Helena Highway, Rutherford, CA 94573. Tastings offered include a Current Release Tasting ($20), a Single Vineyard Cabernet Tasting ($40) and A Taste for Cabernet ($50), hosted by Dean Busquaert. Instead of matching food and wine by weight and color, Dean demonstrates the elements of pairing flavors with Cabernet by using ingredients that offer the basic components of taste: salt, sweet, sour, bitter and umami. A Taste for Cabernet presents a wide spectrum of Napa Valley Cabernet alongside detailed maps, soil samples, and photos designed to illustrate how a vineyard’s environment is reflected in the wine. The tasting begins with a sample of four single-vineyard Sequoia Grove Cabernets from sites like Lamoreaux (Oak Knoll District), Stagecoach (Atlas Peak AVA), Morisoli (Rutherford AVA), and Healy (St. Helena AVA), followed by Cambium, Sequoia Grove’s iconic Cabernet-based red wine blend.
